Speak Japanese! Have fun learning Japanese conversation at Iidabashi Japanese Language School, Tokyo.

What is “After you.” in Japanese? : Dozo, osakini

* Formal

Example:

(On an elevator)

A: “Douzo, o-saki ni.” “After you.”
B: “Sumimasen.” “Thank you.”

It would be even cooler to say this while pressing the “door open” button.
If you say just “o-saki ni,” it actually means that you will be getting off first.

Therefore, it’s important that you also say “douzo.”
